Course Descriptions
Master Classes
A Pilates class with Shari is a true education. You’ll find your body and brain sweating with both a strong workout and a new education: physical and intellectual. Now…you get PMA CECs for these classes. We’ll work hard for 45 minutes on a particular theme. Then we’ll take time to discuss. Workout first. Embody and Experience. Discussion next. Intellectual understanding for the teacher. It’s a mini-workshop…a maxi-hour!
Whether in a group class or in a private session, we must work with a theme…an intrinsic action that we’re working to teach our clients to incorporate into each exercise in Pilates…and life. Join in and learn while you do, then discuss how to make a class extremely effective!
The Teaser Workshop
All is going great with your workout, session, or class and then you meet up with: The Teaser! Either you have to do it or you have to teach it...and both you and your clients are filled with the seemingly unanswerable question: “Why can’t I do The Teaser?” It’s time to learn why The Teaser doesn’t work out well and how to get it to be fantastic! Getting to The Teaser is a beautiful, yet often missed progression. Maybe the progression is even more detailed than you’d expect! The time has come to own your Teaser...and help your clients to own it, too!
Proprioception and Interoception: How Can I Tell What I’m Doing?
Where are you in space? How do you know without looking in the mirror or needing hands-on? How do you clients know? In The Vertical Workshop, our method works to develop both your sense of your body in space and what’s going on in the inside. When we develop and help our clients develop this, great changes can occur! Physical goals can be achieved! It is a vital aspect to muscle learning and real change that goes beyond the session or class. Why isn’t it taught more? Why don’t Pilates teachers recognize the value of it? It’s time you developed this and taught it! Teaching is so much easier and more rewarding when we use all of the tools available to us! This one is a bit of a mind-blower!
Why Can’t I Do That Exercise? (And I can’t get my clients to do it, either!)
Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair: 4 Part Series - Choose 1 or all! You know that exercise you can’t seem to do even though you’ve been doing Pilates for a long time? What about the one your clients can’t seem to accomplish, and you can’t figure out why they can’t get it? Every exercise is accomplishable by everyone. It’s a matter of letting the exercise expose the weaknesses and imbalances and then strengthen and balance...right? Yes...but there’s more. We have to know what the issue is. When your legs fly up in The Roll Up, it must mean you need more abdominal strength, right? Actually, no. When your hip flexors hurt in your Teaser it must mean you need to turn off your hip flexors, right? Again, no. What myths are we working with that are still hindering our exercises...which hinders our ability to develop strength and balance of soft tissue tension and ultimately helps us achieve our physical and professional goals?
Mysterious Aches and Pains
Even your normal, healthy clients still have weird aches and pains. Some that come and go and some that are chronic. In this vibrant workshop, we'll discover the roots of and tips for managing those odd issues like clicking hips, crunchy knees, hyper-extended elbows and knees, pain in
wrists, S.I. joint trouble, sciatica, frozen shoulder, migraine headaches, vertigo and so many more! Bring with you your questions about normal physical issues that seem mysterious. It's time you got the answers you seek! Let's answer them all!
